The Australian sharemarket has held onto strong early gains with all sectors in the black at noon.
The benchmark ASX 200 was ahead by 134 points, or 2.3 percent, at 5909.3. It's the first time the bourse has broken through the 5900 barrier since March 11. About 160 companies were trading higher.
The heavyweight financials picked up where they left off on Wednesday, adding 4.5 percent in morning trade to bring the week's gains to more than 15 percent so far.
