U.S. stock futures ES00, +0.45% turned higher on Tuesday, shaking off early losses after President Donald Trump threatened to use the military to quell civil unrest. Down as much as 172 points, futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average YM00, +0.52% were recently 102 points higher. Markets in Europe extended early gains, with the German DAX DAX, +3.43% surging 3.5% after a three-day break.

Bank share prices are racing upwards in early afternoon trading, following the release of a note from UBS analyst Jonathan Mott, saying bank shares are likely to reverse some of their underperformance after the sector has lagged the market during the pandemic crisis and the recent bounce-back. Australia and New Zealand Bank is up 9.4 percent, Westpac is up 9.2 percent, National Australia Bank is up 9 percent, and Commonwealth Bank is up 5.2 percent. These four banks alone have added over 70 points to the S&P/ASX 200, which is now up 18 points, or 0.3 percent.

It is worth noting that the Fed's interest rate meeting tonight will be the first time since December last year that a "dot map" will be released, providing forecasts of the US economy and interest rates. The forecast, which was supposed to be released in March, was shelved due to a shift to an emergency meeting.
